NATIONAL CARIBBEAN AMERICAN RESTAURANT WEEK (NCARW)
RETURNS

JUNE 9th THROUGH 15th, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC (April 2024): The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS), The
National Caribbean-American Food & Foodways Alliance (NCAFFA), and Deh Abroad Village ,jointly announce June 9-15, 2024 as National Caribbean American Restaurant Week (NCARW), a part of the month long celebration of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month (NCAHM).

During NCARW, diners can enjoy a variety of special dining and event experiences which showcase the world of flavors in Caribbean cuisine. The NCARW Campaign provides diners with an extensive nationwide directory of diverse dining options including fine dining and casual restaurants, markets, food trucks and caterers. Diners are encouraged to seek out these merchants and explore traditional and unique dishes, and dining experiences.

For the second year, the NCARW will also feature its “Meet the Chefs” series which highlights recognized Caribbean chefs who will share their passions and provide demonstrations adding to diners’ knowledge and skills.

“Like many other Caribbean-American contributions to America showcased in June, exploring Caribbean cuisine is a gateway to directly experiencing Caribbean culture and its impact on the American dining table” observes Dr. Claire Nelson, the founder of ICS.

ICS, a nonprofit established in 1993, is dedicated to education, advocacy and action on issues that impact Caribbean Americans. Since 2006, it has served as the campaign chair of National Caribbean American Heritage Month, and since 1994 has produced the National Caribbean-American Heritage Awards.

According to Doreen Thompson, Esq. the Co-Founder of NCAFFA (or the Caribbean Foodways Alliance), “Diners can savor what makes Caribbean cuisine the earliest and best fusion cuisine as it includes Indigenous, African, European, Indian, and Asian influences. With each bite, a dish can reveal a little Caribbean history.”

Using partnerships, NCAFFA, a nonprofit platform, established in 2010, promotes Caribbean cuisine culture and history through its “Eat, Drink Caribbean” campaign, which initiated Caribbean Restaurant Week, targets the month of June as Caribbean Cuisine Month and recognizes Caribbean-American food pioneers and food writers through its Caribbean Cooks & Books® Celebration.

Dominic Christopher, President of Deh Abroad Village, reflects that “NCARW is also an opportunity to help to restore the health of these largely small businesses to pre-pandemic levels.” He adds that “the 2024 slogan, Savor the World of Flavors in Caribbean Cuisine captures the diversity of dining experience that awaits each customer”.

Deh Abroad Village (www.dehabroad.org), a nonprofit founded in October 2020, is a free information portal to an inventory of Caribbean diaspora businesses. Deh Abroad initiated and manages the nationwide directory of Caribbean restaurants at caribbeanrestaurantweek.us.
